Manufacturing Quality Engineer

A Manufacturing Quality Engineer is responsible for defining and implementing manufacturing processes that are highly efficient, minimize the occurrence of human errors, and deliver defect-free product within planned budgets and time constraints.

The Manufacturing Quality Engineer must possess demonstrable technical expertise in electrical and mechanical engineering. The individual assigned to this responsibility must be self-directed and must show initiative in identifying and resolving opportunities for improvement and promoting effective behaviors.

This position reports to the Quality Manager and will work collaboratively with the engineering, quality, production, operations, and management.

 

$70 - $80K salary

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Quality, from raw materials supply to finished products. This responsibility will include
    • Defining quality systems
    • Documenting quality procedures
    • Lead enforcement of quality control
    • Root cause analysis
    • Collection, storage, retrieval and analysis of manufacturing and quality metrics
  • Continuous improvement, to maximize performance, improve quality, and to improve productivity.
  • Lead quality and continuous improvement programs including but not limited to 6S, Kaizen Lean Methods, Lean Six Sigma etc.

Implement metrics and standard procedures that measure and facilitate corrective actions on quality, productivity, efficiencies, and eliminating waste at the team and at the individual level.

  • Training and certifications, develop programs to train and certify competences of the production and support staff on the skills required to work independently on the manufacture of industrial control panels.
  • Engineering, including detailed work to create and review electrical and mechanical technical documentation
  • Production, including manufacturing support, new project introductions, engineering changes, and training of production staff.
  • Customer Support, including working with customer purchasing and engineering teams, performing post-delivery Customer surveys.
  • Special builds including prototypes and 1st article products
  • New methods and equipment to increase productivity and capabilities
  • Support facilities and help oversee contractors hired to work on facilities issues (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc)

Qualifications & Skills

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Technology (ME Tech), Industrial Engineering, or equivalent
  • Quality systems and manufacturing quality with electrical/mechanical products
  • Data collection and analysis
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to lead a cross functional team through a root cause analysis and implementation of resulting corrective actions
  • Electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, bills of materials, parts/components specification, and product requirements (functional, quality, environmental, ruggedness, etc.)
  • Experience documenting internal and external documents in the form of procedures and reports to communicate direction as well as findings from investigation
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills as demonstrated in emails, all written communications, and documentation.
  • Experience with design practices and problem-solving techniques such as DMAIC and FMEA
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Exhibit attention to detail
  • Ability to manage a varied workload and prioritize effectively
  • Self-directed, creative, and focused on continuous improvement
  • A passion for quality

Working Environment

  • Normal manufacturing conditions always requiring safety observation
  • Light physical effort necessary to perform the job
  • Working near/around moving mechanical parts
